Let’s Leave No Trace!

Want to make a bigger impact on the natural areas you love? Here’s an easy way: Make less of an impact.

Nature does so much for us. It awakens our adventurous spirit, gives us company and solitude, and a place to unplug, brings us joy and excitement, and puts things in perspective to center us. It takes care of us in so many ways. And guess what? Taking care of it in return is something all of us can do, every time we’re out there.

That's why we've teamed up with Leave No Trace Ireland, an organization that promotes responsible outdoor recreation and taking care of the environment across the beautiful island of Ireland. By becoming a member, you can enjoy a range of benefits while contributing to environmental stewardship and responsible recreation throughout the country.

Nature for All: KEEN x Leave No Trace

We’ve been supporting Leave No Trace since 2008, donating over $530,000 to help fund educational programs, research, and outreach efforts that spread the message of responsible outdoor ethics. And, most recently, we’ve collaborated on a limited edition of our hiking boots. We’ll donate 1% (in 2023 & 3% in 2024) of the profits from each purchase to Leave No Trace Ireland to help fund their education programme and to deliver certified awareness courses across the island.

How to Leave No Trace

While you’re gearing up to spend more time in nature this fall, be sure to brush up on the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace before you head out. Like “Is it OK to leave dog poop in the woods, as long as it is not on the trail?” or “Is it better to walk around a mud puddle to avoid damaging the trail?”

And don't miss these tips from Leave No Trace Ireland on how to recreate responsibly with your new Pyrenees hiking boots:

  • • Stick to the paths and trails to protect our land and coast. This will help to prevent erosion, damage to vegetation, and to preserve fragile habitats such as sand dunes and peatlands.
  • • Be responsible with your dog – keep them on a lead when out for a walk and always clean up after them
  • • Protect our wildlife by keeping your distance. Put yourselves in the shoes of Ireland’s wildlife, who may become stressed when humans get too close! Use the “Rule of Thumb:” extend your arm and thumb in front of you and close one eye. As you view wildlife and farm animals, you should be able to fully cover the animal's image with your thumb. If you can still see it, you are too close!
  • • Keep Ireland litter-free by bringing home all your rubbish after your hike or walk. And maybe even leave the place better than you found it by doing a 2-minute litter pick!
  • • Embrace our island and cultural heritage by exploring its endless beauty! But remember – always be respectful to local communities and follow the landowners’ signage.
  • • Take only pictures, leave only footprints. Did you know that some invasive species can hitchhike on our boots? Give your boots a good brush down after your days of adventures to help prevent their spread to protect biodiversity!

And, remember, when we leave no trace, we inspire others to do the same. Thanks for doing your part and helping grow the Leave No Trace movement. Let’s get out there and keep it going!
